Client Operations Lead

About RENEWCAST

Founded in 2020, Renewcast builds precision wind & solar forecasting software using cutting-edge ML to deliver accurate, scalable, and cost-efficient predictions. After recent investment rounds, we’re expanding our senior technical team to support rapid global growth.

At Renewcast, we value clarity, alignment, and smooth collaboration across technical and business teams—everyone understands not just what we build, but why. We operate under a single shared planning cycle with transparent priorities, trade-offs, and progress. Our team members are hands-on contributors who actively shape and elevate the standards we work by.

What This Role Is

This is a commercial role with data literacy, not a technical role with client skills. You are the company's face to the client and the client's advocate within the company. You own the client relationship from onboarding through ongoing delivery. You coordinate with the technical team but you do not write code, build pipelines, or maintain dashboards — you use the tools that engineering builds for you.

You track commercial information across multiple channels, assess the probability and timing of incoming work, identify bottlenecks in collaboration with the CTO and the commercial team, and ensure that client expectations and technical capacity stay aligned.

This is a client-facing role that demands a combination of technical fluency, structured communication, and a customer care mindset.

What This Role Is Not

This is not a data engineering role. You will not maintain pipelines, write ETL scripts, or build dashboards. Those responsibilities sit with the data engineering team. You are also not a data analyst — if analysis is needed, you can do basic checks with spreadsheets or tools provided to you, but deep investigation is deferred to the technical team.

Responsibilities
  • Client onboarding: Collaborate with the Commercial Department during pre-sales activities; communicate data requirements to new clients, guide them through the delivery setup process, coordinate technical handoffs to data engineering
  • Own the data delivery lifecycle for assigned customers: from onboarding to ongoing operations.
  • Ongoing client management: Be the primary point of contact for assigned clients, handle escalations, maintain relationship trust
  • Commercial-to-technical liaison: Translate client needs into actionable specs for the technical team; translate technical constraints into client-appropriate language. Know when to involve technical people in client meetings and when to handle it yourself.
  • Pipeline and capacity tracking: Keep track of incoming pilots, commercial activity, and probability of new contracts. Work with commercial team and CTO: 1) to assess what the technical team can absorb and when, 2) to optimize project launch schedules to balance capacity, priorities, and commitments 3) to maintain Project Plans and identify and manage risks related to project delays, communicating with stakeholders, 4) to ensure service launches meet quality standards and client expectations
  • Data assessment (non-coding): Review incoming client data documentation, understand which data is available, identify gaps or risks, and communicate these to engineering
  • Issue facilitation: When automated monitoring flags a data or performance issue, coordinate the response — client communication, engineering investigation, resolution tracking
  • Ad-hoc analysis (tool-assisted): Leverage dashboards, reports, and tools built by engineering/data science to answer client questions or prepare for meetings or produce performance reports with analysis and improvement recommendations. Build and maintain internal dashboards for monitoring service quality. Support the Tech Team in root-cause analysis and corrective action design. Basic spreadsheet work when needed.
  • Project Database Maintenance: Create and maintain a structured database of ongoing and completed projects, including client type, technology, capacity, start date, SLA, integration method, and performance. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of information in management systems and produce aggregated reports for strategic decisions. Implement standardized procedures for database updates and data quality assurance.

Must-have
  • 2-4 years in client operations, account management, or technical project coordination in a data or technology company
  • C2+ English (written and spoken) — you will lead international client calls
  • Data literacy: you understand what time-series data is, what a schema means, what "missing data" implies for a forecasting system — you do not need to fix it, but you need to talk about it credibly
  • Solid spreadsheet or data analysis skills (Excel/Sheets, or light Python/Pandas/notebook usage) for reviewing client-provided data.
  • Professional client communication: confident on calls, clear in writing, and able to judge when to commit and when to defer to the technical team. Able to portray a professional image of the company, navigate obstacles with clients (e.g., "we don't have that data"), and ask the right questions to find a path forward
  • Reliable: tracks multiple clients and timelines, flags risks early, keeps stakeholders informed
  • Comfortable working across Slack, Notion, email, and video calls with different audiences
  • Organized: Manages task load with accuracy, tracks delivery progress, and keeps stakeholders informed, cross-functional collaboration attitude, methodological rigour and attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Nice-to-have
  • Energy sector experience (renewables, power markets, weather data)
  • Familiarity with data concepts (APIs, databases, data quality) beyond a surface level
  • Experience in a startup or small company environment where roles are fluid
What We Offer
  • Full-time position with direct hire
  • Hybrid work (Rome or Tallinn office)
  • Front-line role in a growing energy tech company
  • Clear scope: you own client relationships and commercial-technical coordination — not everything else
  • A collaborative team that values ownership and direct communication
  • Gross salary around 35-40k, depending on relevant experience and profile
